What’s in ‘s November’s Christmas Degustabox?
Hartley’s Glitter Jelly – Mixed Berry + Raspberry Flavours
“Transform your dessert time with a little help from Hartley’s – Glitter Jelly has arrived! This glittery wobbly treat will add an extra sparkle to midweek desserts. With its eye-catching edible glitter, this glamorous jelly is sure to please the kids (and the grown-ups too!). It will be the star performer at any birthday or Christmas party.
Free from artificial colours and flavours and suitable for vegetarians, the jelly is available in Strawberry, Raspberry and Mixed Berry flavours and is contained within dazzling glitter-effect packets – get ready to embrace your inner sparkle!”
Our Opinion – No one really enjoys jelly in our house and even though I made one humungous batch of blue and purple jelly combined, the boys still weren’t that impressed by the glitter (at this point, it had started to look like a musty purple). I dressed the jelly bowl with some sliced bananas and the boys tucked into a few spoons before deciding that enough was enough. I do find that, although jelly used to be one of my favourite childhood desserts, especially when paired with ice cream, I do tend to stay away from such chemically based products. The list of emulsifiers and agents in the packet were enough to send me into a little bit of a shock. It tasted so nice, though! I do say that these little glitter jellies would look great at a child’s party and would be very well received by the children. 3/5
Appy Kids Co – The Gruffalo Golden Apple Juice
“Appy Kids Co multi-award winning Lunchbox fruit drinks come in a convenient three-tetra-pack, perfect for school lunch boxes and drinking on the go. The plant stevia-based range is 100% natural, contains no added sugar or artificial ingredients and is vegetarian approved. Featuring beloved kids’ characters such as The Gruffalo, the nutritionist-approved drinks contain 50% less sugar and calories making them kinder to teeth, and a healthier option for children.
*This item was not included in all November Degustaboxes.”
Our Opinion – These Gruffalo golden apple juice boxes were a huge hit with myself and the kids (one for each of us) and I loved this juice – it was positively delicious! This true golden apple flavour was thirst quenching and authentic tasting. More please! 5/5
Ahmad Tea Ltd
“Introducing a unique new concept in tea. Six delightful and sophisticated dessert-inspired recipes infused into black and green teas. A delicious sugar-free, guilt-free, indulgence.
The teas are available in six different dessert inspired flavours, with three black tea varieties: Strawberry Velvet Cake, Pear & Cinnamon Strudel, Moroccan Orange Slice and three green tea varieties: Citrus & Mint Sorbet, Strawberry Basil Coulis and Mango & Lychee Soufflé. Each sophisticated recipe has an exquisite taste and stirring aroma.
Our Opinion – I’m not a huge fan of green tea as I do find it quite bitter, but I did like this citrus version, as the citrus zing replaced the bitterness that I normal taste. This would be great as a morning detox tea and I have already replaced my first cup of coffee with a citrus green tea hit before I tuck into my breakfast – 4/5
Christian Potier – Pepper/Béarnaise/Hollandaise Sauce
“Culinary sauces elaborated by a French chef for meat and fish in single serve pouches 3x50g.
Natural: no preservatives added, no artificial flavours, no colours.
No waste : one pouch for one plate!
Convenience:10 sec at 600 watts in the microwave to heat up.
*You will receive one of three flavours in your Degustabox.
Our Opinion –
I prefer to make my sauces from scratch because I like to know what I’m putting in them before I douse my pasta or rice in the sauce and hand the dish over to my kids to enjoy. Sometimes, however, there isn’t much time to make something fanciful like the hollandaise sauce for a weekday dinner, especially when the boys have been at an extracurricular activity after school. So, I see the point. The sauce come in 4 bitesize packs that you stick into the microwave for just 10 seconds and then pour over your meal (I paired this sauce with a bog standard cheesy pasta with mixed vegetables.)The fact that you can have a hollandaise sauce in 10 seconds is brilliant! It tasted great too. One of the packets exploded in my microwave when I accidentally set the time for 1 minute and not 10 seconds. Be mindful that it really only takes10 seconds before the sauce is ready to be used! 4.5/5
Butterkist Sweet Cinema Style
“Butterkist – the nation’s favourite popcorn – brings you its unique Sweet Cinema Style popcorn in a snack pack.
The best-selling Sweet Cinema Style popcorn in a snack pack is great for those little sweet treat moments throughout the day. Just open, serve and enjoy.
Available in multipack of 6 for £1.69. *You will receive a sample pack from the multipack of 6.”
Our Opinion – We received one packet from the 6 snack packs you get in one big bag and I was a little disappointed at the amount that one snack pack contains – it wasn’t very much at all. Nevertheless, the popcorn tasted nice. I’m not sure whether any popcorn beats the sweet style you get at the cinema, but they do come very close! 3.5/5
Butterkist Choc Mallow Popcorn
“Butterkist – the nation’s favourite popcorn – brings you its indulgent Choc Mallow popcorn made for sharing.
The temptingly, moreish Choc Mallow is perfect for creating an indulgent twist to those family nights in front of the TV, Christmas gatherings, New Year parties and unexpected guests.”
Our Opinion – These were super tasty, my boys especially thought so. The only thing is that I am trying to steer clear from unnecessary sugar, so I wouldn’t go out and buy these straight from the aisle. But, as an option, they would come first because they’re not as sweet as the sweet-style popcorn, but they do have that chocolatey flavour that’s enough to entice the boys. 4/5
Ryvita Thins Caramelised Onion Flatbreads/Sweet Chilli Flatbreads
“Caramelised Onion Thins are the newest edition to our range of flatbreads. They are a source of fibre, and are perfect for a delicious, healthy snack; whether you’re watching a movie, catching up with friends, or just feeling a bit peckish at your desk. They’re great on their own or with a dip, and if you and your friends fancy a bit of indulgence – these make the perfect accompaniment for a melted camembert!
Sweet Chilli Thins are also a source of fibre, and they also have a bit of kick to them. They are great eaten with a smashed avocado or a nice cooling dip. Or if you really like a hot snack – then pair them with something spicy!
For a camembert recipe, as well as loads of other dip ideas, visit our website www.ryvita.com/recipes
*You will receive one of two flavours in your Degustabox.
Our Opinion – Hubby demolished these on their own, bar one, which I managed to snag to trial out. They were delicious! You can easily eat these on their own because the caramelised onion provides just enough flavour to the flatbread without you needing to enhance them with anything else. A great healthy snack for in between meals – 4.5/5 –
Ryvita Crackers Black Pepper / Spiced Apple Chutney
“Ryvita Crackers are distinctively crispy, and have been baked with wholegrain rye and olive oil for a fuller flavour. Low in saturated fat, low in sugar, and high in protein and fibre, they’re available in 4 delicious flavours including Golden Rye, Black Pepper, Green & Black Olive and Spiced Apple Chutney which is the perfect Christmassy addition to your cheese board!
*You will receive one of two flavours in your Degustabox.
Our Opinion – I am gutted that we never got to try the spiced apple chutney, as that sounds so appetising! We were, instead, provided with the black pepper version and, boy, did they have a kick to them that the boys couldn’t stomach. But that just meant that there was more for me and I enjoyed devouring these crackers with feta cheese and tomato. They really enhance the flavour of simple snacks that you can enjoy in between meals 5/5
Pipers Crisps Atlas Mountains Wild Thyme & Rosemary
“Pipers Crisps endeavour to make Britain’s tastiest crisps. They use locally sourced potatoes that are cooked in high oleic sunflower oil until they are just the right colour. Whilst still warm they are seasoned with Atlas Mountain Wild Thyme & Rosemary sourced from the mountains of Morocco. Gluten Free.
“Crisps as They Should Taste”
Our Opinion – These tasted very unique and although a tad on the salty side, it was a real hit in our house. Not much else to say to these. I found them to be ok 3/5
Jules Destrooper Butter Crisps
“This golden, crispy and well-known butter waffle is today still being baked according to a 19th century secret family recipe. In 2006, the VLAM granted the natural butter waffle of Biscuiterie Jules Destrooper the official quality label ‘Regional Westhoek product’. In the Westhoek this waffle is called a ‘lukke’. The origin of this name lies in the fact that this waffle was a New Year’s present. It used to be common for children to wish their godfather or godmother a happy (in Dutch ‘gelukkig’) New Year. In exchange for this New Year’s greeting they would receive these thin hard waffles, sometimes combined with a shot. Every woman had her own recipe and baking the waffles was part of a ritual which started on Boxing Day and continued up to New Year’s Eve. Baking these ‘lukken’ was a typical home industry. Every house had its own recipe and a special waffle iron made by the local blacksmith.
Our Opinion – I am partial to some waffles with my morning cup of joe and these did not disappoint. They were, however, supremely sweet, so the sugar content had me worried before I tucked into my second waffle crisp. Delicious though. 4/5
“J2O Glitterberry is a unique grape and cherry spiced flavour drink with edible glitter that sparkles when the bottle is shaken. Luscious fruit juice drink for adults, perfect to celebrate festive season.
Also sold as a four-pack in supermarkets, priced at £4.00.
Our Opinion – At first I was worried about the chemicals that would have gone in to making this J20 glittery drink. But, it tasted delicious. I loved the berry flavour and could have gulped down another 2 bottles if they were within reach. I probably wouldn’t buy it again because of the sugar count, but if it was offered to me, I wouldn’t say no! 4/5 –
Michel et Augustin 4 Cookie Squares sittin’ in a row dark chocolate with a pinch of sea salt

Our Opinion – These tasty dark chocolate square biscuits are very moreish, so 4 is just not enough! They remind me of the Bahlsen chocolates – the smooth chocolate flavour should be a definite try! 5/5
Broderick’s Crunchy Slam Dunk Peanut Chunk
“Yes, Barry & Bernard are real brothers…
Yes, they make delicious cakes and sweet things in picturesque Irish locale, and yes, it all began years ago, in Ina’s kitchen. It sounds nice and cozy, but here’s the thing – They are total eejits…
Introducing the award winning Crunchy Slam-Dunk Peanut Chunk. Whole roasted peanuts, crunchy rice krispies, Belgian chocolate topped with a thick layer of chunky peanut butter and a marbled top of Belgian white and milk chocolate.
*This product was not included in all November Degustaboxes.
Our Opinion – When I saw this peanut bar I thought, great, a protein heavy snack that I could provide to the kids to keep them going between meals. But, when I tasted a bit of the bar, I thought they were SO sweet! The sugar count is high and, even though, I’m a huge fan of peanut butter bars because of their protein infusion, I am not a fan of one big block of sugar. Overall a nice taste to the bar, but too sweet for my boys (although, they wouldn’t think so themselves!) 3/5 –
The Good Cider of San Sebastian – Strawberry-Lime + Wild Berries
“We collect and select the best apples from the harvest from our own apple trees in Spain.
Then using traditional methods, we create our delicious craft cider, The Good Cider of San Sebastian.
Wild Berries: Bursting with the freshest blackcurrants and cranberries.
Strawberry-Lime: A unique flavour combination; a splash of fresh strawberries and a squeeze of tangy lime.
Drink them very cold and/or with ice!
*These products were not included in all November Degustaboxes.
Our Opinion – I avoid cider like the plague, so hubby tried these and was quite pleasantly surprised by the taste. He said that they are great to have whilst watching the footie or having a casual drink with the mates and wouldn’t mind giving them another try again. So, all good on that front! 4/5 –
What did I like most about November’s Christmas Degustabox?
Hands down, the Gruffalo golden apple juice boxes, not just because they have one of the boys’ favourite characters on the box, but because they really do taste of golden apples. As a treat, instead of water and at parties, I’d be more than happy to supply these juice boxes, they are just brilliant!
4 out of 5 – A nice variety of delicious edible items in this month’s box. However, I do believe they are still a tad on the sweet side. Is it because sweet products are more delicious than savoury snacks? I’d hope not… More savoury items, please! Thank you so much
