Keeping the kids entertained during travel journeys with Amazon Prime Video – ‘Download Day’

Keeping the kids entertained during travel journeys with Amazon Prime Video - ‘Download Day’

We are fast becoming a nation of digital packers, particularly with parents and families, who are constantly trying to ensure their kids are kept entertained during long car journeys and flights. And, with the busiest travel weekend of the year proposed to be this weekend of 21st/22nd July, it’s important to make sure you’ve got your tablets prepared and ready for the long journey ahead.

The good news is that the new Amazon fire HD8 Kids Edition tablet comes packed with 32GB worth of download space and a huge variety of content available to be downloaded to the device. A couple of years ago, my husband and I, along with our two boys who were four and five at the time, embarked upon a 13-hour car journey to Switzerland for the weekend. We even made it through the 13-hour journey back to the UK, alive and kicking, but the duration would have been a lot easier for the boys if they had their tablets to turn to once they had finished all their puzzle, word, and paper games, which they had taken with them in their holiday rucksacks. This time, on the way to an annual BBQ, I decided to pack the new Amazon fire HD8 tablet, along with their favourite puzzle and colouring books. This journey was a breeze, for I had made sure that the boys had their favourite shows downloaded to the fire HD8, as well as their favourite books and games if they got bored with watching their TV shows.

The Amazon Fire HD8 Kids Edition Tablet is perfect for travel as it is lightweight and comes in a protective padded cover. It’s also very easy to use, with multiple customised features that allow parents complete control and peace of mind over what their children watch and play with on the tablet.

Other great tips for making the most out of the Amazon Fire HD8 Kids Edition Tablet

  • You can find a great selection of books to download and read on the tablet, both non-fiction and fiction. Some books offer the option of reading to your child if they are not able to read yet, or if they are at a reading stage, they can read along with the book.
  • The protective casing that surrounds the tablet should ensure minimised breakages, however, if the tablet is broken, there is a two-year worry-free guarantee, which means if anything happens to the tablet, Amazon will replace it for free, with no questions asked.
  • The Fire HD8 Kids Edition tablet includes one year of FreeTime Unlimited so kids get unlimited access to 5,000 books, games, apps and movies/TV Shows. Parents are able to personalise screen time limits, by setting goals for your child’s reading, gaming and watching. There is also an additional filter that allows for kids to search the internet browser without parents having to worry about them stumbling upon explicit content. You set your child’s age and Amazon will ensure that the content viewed is child-friendly.

So, if you’re setting off on the busiest travel weekend of the year, make sure you are fully prepared for the journey. It’s great that parents provide kids with a variety of educational, but fun activities to enjoy in the back of the car, whether this be on paper, or electronic. Keeping the kids entertained during with Amazon Prime Video means that parents find that little bit of respite during a long journey while the kids have fun in the car.
