“Packed with three types of seeds, Whole Earth, Peanut Butter with Sunflower, Pumpkin and Flaxseed has a rich and unique taste, making it a truly scrumptious spread. Perfect for a protein filled breakfast, or to get you through the mid-afternoon slump, this is a must-have addition to the store cupboard.”
Our Opinion – We are a family of peanut butter lovers and we always buy the crunchy Tesco brand version (even though my favourite is still the old-skool Sun-Pat Peanut Butter). But, I’m always keen to try out a much healthier peanut butter alternative, especially with ingredients like sunflower, pumpkin and flax seeds added to the mix. You won’t get the same sweetened taste from the normal peanut butter you buy, but the crunchy consistency is delicious and ideal for real protein-loving peanut butter eaters.
We managed to enjoy two different types of desserts with this Whole Earth Peanut Butter. Links to the recipes below:
“Beet It Sport is the #1 natural nitrate brand in the world. Beetroot shots and bars contains c400mg of dietary nitrate and is used by over 150 universities would-wide for research into the benefits of lowering blood pressure and improving sports performance. Find out more at www.beet-it.com/research.”
Our Opinion – I decided to try one of these Beet It bars before my normal workout and in place of my quick cup of coffee. I was quite taken aback by its richness, which I really wasn’t expecting. You really taste the beetroot in this one-bar meal and I did find I had quite a bit of energy to complete my workout afterwards. Not sure if I can handle the rich taste though – it’s not too sweet, but it’s very dense!
MELBA THINS – £1.39
“Melba Thins, crisp toast, for night owls and early birds. Night owls: Pick your occasion (dinner, cocktails or snack). Add toppings (cheese, salads…) with or without company. Enjoy your evening! Early birds: Choose your moment (breakfast, brunch, lunch). Serve with jam, ham (or…). Select a drink. Enjoy your day.”
Our Opinion – As much as we love peanut butter, we love crisp breads and toasts. I instantly liked the little packets of 6 crisp toasts, so you don’t have to open the whole packet, just use one mini packet at a time. The boys had three each, which was enough for one snack sitting, and we enjoyed them with peanut butter, jam and cheese/tomato. Very versatile and individually tasty crispy bread treats.
SCHWARTZ FLAVOUR SHOTS – 2 x £1.40
“Flavour Shots from Schwartz are delicious recipe bases containing a unique blend of herbs, spices and seasonings infused in sunflower oil to help you create amazing tasting meals. Simply spoon into your pan, add your favourite ingredients, simmer and serve. There are 8 delicious recipes to choose from. Available in Tesco, Morrisons, ASDA and Waitroses. For more hints, tips and recipe ideas visit www.schwartz.co.uk.”
Our Opinion – We haven’t tried the Indian Mild Masala Curry flavour pot yet, but I did enjoy making some Spanish Paella one night and it was very tasty, albeit a little too spicy for the boys. My brother-in-law did comment that I didn’t really make authentic Paella (he lives in Valencia at the moment with his Spanish wife), but I was happy with it – it tasted delicious! It’s very easy to use, you simply add the sauce before you brown your chicken and add your ingredients. You can find the full instructions on how to use the Spanish Paella flavour pot in my Spanish Paella recipe on Motherhood Diaries’ website.
LILY O’BRIENS – £2.60
“Lily O’Briens, Ireland’s best-loved chocolatier, has launched its new range of luxury snacking pouches for chocolate lovers looking for scrumptiously indulgent treat. Try our Cocoa Cookie Crunch… crunch chocolate biscuit pieces smothered in smooth, creamy milk chocolate. Treat yourself, share with family or simply snack on the go!”
Our Opinion – We were very kindly gifted a bag of Lily O’Brien’s Cocoa Cookie Crunch and, boy, were these little round dark chocolate crunchy balls super tasty! Naturally, the whole packet was devoured by all of us 4 within 5 minutes, and all of us were unanimous in our verdict that this is definitely a chocolatey treat we shall be enjoying again!
AMERICAN MUFFIN COMPANY – 2 x £2.50
“American Muffin Company produces some of the most deliciously and delectable gluten free, wheat free muffins, cakes, brownies and cookies. The muffins and cakes are made by always using the finest ingredients such as high cocoa content chocolate chips and Sicilian lemon oil. Therefore, satisfying the most discerning consumer.”
Our Opinion – The first thing I liked about these chocolate brownies were that they’re all individually packed and perfect for families on-the-go. They can be quite messy to eat, but they are super tasty and I couldn’t tell the difference between wheat/gluten-free brownies and the normal chocolate brownie kind. I would have preferred more than 6 in one big pack for that price, but we thoroughly enjoyed them and we will definitely buy them again for the high quality.
PEANUT HOTTIE – £3.00
“Meet the world’s first Peanut Butter flavoured hot drink Peanut Hottie! The distinct peanut butter taste, aroma and colour are the results of real American peanuts blended together with a special flavour and carefully selected ingredients to create a smooth, velvety indulgent instant hot drink – a great alternative to tea and coffee.”
Our Opinion – I wasn’t looking forward to trying this as I love peanut butter on my bread or even in desserts I make. But, as a hot drink? Isn’t that weird?? Actually, it didn’t taste that bad and the boys seemed to enjoy the subtle peanut butter flavour in their warm drinks. I don’t know if I’d make it a habit to drink peanut butter hotties, but it might be a nice alternative to sweeter drinks for the boys.
LAIMON FRESH – £1.99
“Open nature’s secret with Laimon Fresh – a refreshing lightly sparkling lemon, lime and mint flavoured soft drink using only 100% natural ingredients. Laimon Fresh tastes delicious on its own but can also be simply mixed with white rum to create a tasty Mojito cocktail!”
Our Opinion – I’m Turkish Cypriot – and Mediterranean – so mint, lemon and lime comes naturally to us. And, the fact that this drink tastes exactly like how I would expect a sparkling lemon, lime and mint flavoured drink, has made Laimon Fresh my absolutely favourite fizzy drink in the whole world! My husband didn’t like it because he doesn’t really like mint and lemon. But, this is the perfect refreshingly tasty drink any time of the year.
JACK LINK’S – £1.39
“Jack Link’s is the world’s best-selling meat snacks company. The range includes the JACK LINK’S Beef Snack which is a delicious, convenient and easy-to-eat bar aimed at busy people looking for a healthier snack on the go. Only the best quality beef is used, which is then seasoned with a unique blend of spices and oven roasted. www.jacklinks.co.uk.”
Our Opinion – Really gutted, but never really got round to tasting this ‘Beef Snack’ as it seemed to get lost in our cupboard and we’ve never found it. But, as soon as I do, I will document because I just love the name in itself. It sounds like a snack only superheroes would eat. “BEEF SNACK!”
What did I like most about February’s Degustabox?
So many things – Laimon Fresh came out trumps for me, whilst Lily’s O’ Brien’s Chocolate Crunch and American Muffin Company’s gorgeous chocolate brownies was thoroughly enjoyed by all of us. Such a great variety of products you wouldn’t normally cast your eye on in the shops, but so tasty and of great quality in themselves, that they’re definitely worth the consideration. Another great Degustabox – still would highly recommend these boxes to anyone.
What to watch out for:
The rich taste of Beet It will make you feel like you’ve eaten lunch, but it does provide you with the energy it promises.
5 out of 5 – Again, can’t fault Degustabox. Always delivered on time with all products beautifully wrapped and protected in their box. And all tasting wonderfully different and rich in quality. I’m always excited to see what’s next!
