What is the ChillFactor Slushy Maker all about?

The ChillFactor Squeeze Cup Slushy Maker is a unique cup that enables you to make a slushy at home in literally seconds. All you need is the Squeeze Cup, a freezer, a pair of hands and a liquid ingredient of your choice, whether that be juice, soda or milk-based drinks. The cup itself has a rubbery texture and a solid screw-on base situated on the rim of the cup. A plastic dome lid with a hole in the middle screws onto the plastic rim of the cup and is designed to prevent spillages. You can buy the Squeeze Cup in 6 different colours and they all come with a scooping spoon to help dig out those precious last bits of your slushy. Inside the cup, there is a rubber type sack that holds the frozen fluids.

But, how does it work?

The Squeeze Cup promotes simplicity – you remove the lid from the cup, place it in the freezer for about 6 hours, remove from the freezer, add your chosen ingredient and then squeeze the cup with your hands. You can literally watch the drink turn into slush within seconds. Well, more like a moment or two… The Slushy Maker is aimed at children aged 3+, but adults can have just as much fun making super-duper slushies.

Chillfactor slushy cup

The boys and I are used to grabbing a quick plastic slushy cup from a nearby shop during those hot summer days and they are the perfect way to cool down after you’ve been out and about all day. However, I’m always wary of the syrup the shops use. They are quite high in sugar and send the kids on a crazy high for about an hour before they then crash and burn. I’ve had too many in my life for one slushy to affect me, but it would be nice to add healthier syrups to a much-loved refreshment.

We were given the ChillFactor Squeeze Cup Slushy Maker Tutti Fruity – Pink to try for the purposes of this review.

Chillfactor Slushy Cup

When I first laid hands on the ChillFactor Squeeze Cup, my initial reaction was that these squeeze cups are the perfect alternative to disposable cups and they provide you with the opportunity to add what you want and take it around with you on those hot summer days.

I found the Squeeze Cup to be a chore to dismantle and clean and it was even more difficult to reassemble. The top circular rings wouldn’t allow the lid to close properly and I gave up, in the end, leaving the top slightly lopsided. However, it didn’t affect the cup’s ability to freeze and turn drinks into slush.

The advert on Character Online’s website claims that you can have a proper slushy within 3 seconds, but it’s more like a minute or 2 before you start to see the real effect, alongside some forceful squeezing of the cup. It’s not that much hard work though…

As we’re a family of 2 adults and 2 children, the Family Pack is better suited to us than buying £12.99 x 4 Slushy Makers. The Family Pack has 4 slushy maker cups in 4 different colours and only costs £29.99 – so much cheaper!

Creamy Melon Slushy

I was making a Passionfruit Pie at the time and decided to combine the leftover whipped double cream with some blitzed cantaloupe melons used in a smoothie earlier that day. The result was delicious and the kids really enjoyed using the spoon it comes with to scoop up the slush.

ChillFactor Squeeze Cup Slushy Maker vs. Ordinary Shop Bought Slushy

With the ChillFactor Squeeze Cup, you have an unlimited choice of flavours to choose from (which means you don’t have to purchase the slushies with the syrups that are super high in sugar). You won’t need to travel to your nearest shop to experience a slushy either as these Squeeze Cups are made primarily for use in the home. There’s no need for a slushy maker machine and you do not require ice or blenders.

What did I like most about the ChillFactor Squeeze Cup Slushy Maker?

In all honesty, I have tried my best to avoid giving the kids slushies due to the high levels of sugar normally found in these drinks. However, I can praise the Squeeze Cup’s simplicity due to its handy sized cup, which is durable and of great quality. You can freeze the cup in 5/6 hours and have an instant slushy, using any flavour you want, by squeezing the cup. It’s pretty clever really…

What to watch out for:

The parts are frustrating to assemble once cleaned.

I was also initially concerned that this product is promoted to be acceptable for children from 3+. But, I do now realise that given the right ingredients – and guidance – this product can do far less harm to children than ordinary shop bought.

3.5 out of 5 – The concept behind the Squeeze Cup Slushy Maker is brilliant, but the parts are just too annoying to put together. Do you really need all those rings on the top?
