Organise your child's life with Tidy Books ForgetMeNot - motherhooddiaries

Since my boys started primary school (they’re now in reception and year 1) their social/extracurricular calendar has literally blown up in my face. Birthday parties (by the dozen), school trips, concerts, gymnastics, football, drama, music, art… the list goes on. And, they’re only 5 and 6 years old!

Up until now, my method for organising these events was scheduling them meticulously into my Outlook calendar (which I still do) and bundling all the paperwork on the fridge, so I wouldn’t forget when a particular event took place. I longed for a notice board of sorts that could contain all the bits and pieces related to each event in one place and where I could just every now and again glance over and be comforted in the fact that I had everything under control.

Then I found the ForgetMeNot.

The Tidy Books ForgetMeNot is nothing short of awesome. It ticks all the boxes for managing a busy child’s life and it’s fun and enjoyable enough for the child to become independent and take control of their own lives. So, what is the ForgetMeNot?

Founded and designed by Geraldine Grandidier from Tidy Books, the ForgetMeNot was born out of a need to put everything in one place that the kids require for school and any other related activity. So, as soon as you step out of the door, you can grab all the important bits that you need to ensure you’re on top of everything, i.e. important trip letters, dinner money, gym kit etc, so nothing is forgotten in the mornings.

Our review of the ForgetMeNot

When we received our large packages in the post, we were glad to see that there wasn’t any need for assembly as the ForgetMeNot comes in one piece, along with a packet of screws to affix to the wall. We decided to hang each of our boys’ new ForgetMeNot noticeboards over in their new homework area, in their bedroom, as we felt that the ForgetMeNots were in keeping with the tone of the area. This part of their room is also a work in progress (the whiteboard in the middle needs to be moved over to the centre of the noticeboards and the walls need to be repainted), but The ForgetMeNots look so great in the homework area and the boys were very eager to start personalising their noticeboards as soon as possible.

Instead of drilling the noticeboards with the screws provided, we decided to use some Large Mount Strips and eight of these strips were enough to secure one ForgetMeNot firmly onto the wall. The noticeboard comes with five pegs, which manage to hold quite a considerable amount of weight. The boys thought it would be best to hook every coat they own to their noticeboard, as well as their hats and multiple bags too.

There is a little shelf-like storage area where you can place your whiteboard marker and extra bits and pieces that you may need to find the next day. I store the boys’ school ties and watches in their respective ForgetMeNot, which has become a real timesaver for me in the mornings.

Pros

  • The whiteboard is a great size and not too small. You have enough space to add letters, invites, and anything else that the child wants to secure with the strong magnets supplied.
    • You can keep everything for the school or nursery run, all in one place.
    • There is a good quality stain-resistant magnetic whiteboard and pen for you to write notes.
    • Five pegs are more than enough for hanging up school bags and lunch packs. The pegs are very sturdy and I am impressed with how much weight they can actually hold.
    • You are supplied with three strong magnets to hold letters safely.
    • The notice board is made from sustainable wood, not MDF. The quality is great and the red fits so well with the theme of the boys’ bedroom. You can also purchase a ForgetMeNot in white and natural too.
    • The paint is finished in Tidy Books’ pioneering water lacquer which is safe for children, and better for the environment.
    • The ForgetMeNot is handmade finished.*

Cons

  • It would have fared better to attach the pen to the noticeboard with possibly some string or velcro, as the boys kept misplacing theirs and I would have to keep hunting around for them. We ended up using blu tac affixed to the board, which we secure the pens with now.
  • A sponge eraser of some sort would have been an ideal addition to wipe off any notes made on the whiteboard with the whiteboard marker.
  • A few extra magnets can help to secure multiple pieces of paper and card to the board.
  • The package should also come with mount strips for people who do not want to drill the ForgetMeNot on the wall with the supplied screws. We didn’t want to deface our walls, so we ended up using 8 Large Mount Strips, which worked perfectly. The noticeboard, despite the weight of multiple coats and bags, is still holding up strong.

Our thoughts on the Tidy Books ForgetMeNots

Organise your child’s life with the Tidy Books ForgetMeNot notice board - motherhooddiaries

The ForgetMeNot is the perfect addition to any family home and you can see that this noticeboard is designed by a mum. It has helped us become more organised in the mornings, by ensuring that all the important letters, invites and bags are in one place, so that we can literally just pick up and go. The five pegs can hold an insane amount of coats and bags and the strong magnets can secure even thick card invites and other important pieces of paper. I store the boys’ watches, ties and small bits that they require every morning in the little shelf as well, so the ForgetMeNot is very practical. With the addition of mount strips to secure the noticeboard and a whiteboard eraser, this noticeboard will be your number one go-to during those busy school mornings. It will even get the children organised too!

* Tidy Books’ designs are handmade and finished in water lacquer.  Tidy Books could have coated them with a solvent based acrylic, but they made an ethical choice.  Water lacquer is a safe, eco-friendly finish that shows the natural imperfections in the wood, which is better for the planet and your kids.
